Girl From Mars
The original UK promo video was described by the band as a cross between “Give It Away” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the ‘Natrel Plus’ TV ad. The video was shot on a cold windy day on the beach at Camber Sands at the end of their first European tour. Directed by Peter Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle a paint-splattered Ash seem to be enjoying themselves, but the reality was far different, Rick in particular found the shoot completely demeaning. The band disliked the video so much that when the time came to release “Girl From Mars” as a single in the US 16 months later, Ash took the opportunity to re-shoot the video.
The band decided to enlist the help of director Jesse Peretz, famous for his work with the Foo Fighters on “Big Me” and “Learn to Fly”, to create a more dignified and intelligent video.
On February 7th, 2020 the band uploaded a HD version of the video to YouTube to promote the release of Teenage Wildlife: 25 Years of Ash.
