Rick announces side project Burned As Witches

Ash drummer Rick McMurray has today announced details of a new album from his side project Burned As Witches.

The self-titled album is due for release on April 17th via Fierce Panda and Earblind Records and is available for pre-order now. It features Rick McMurray playing all instruments and was produced by Graeme Young.

Ash have today released “Keep Dreaming”, the latest single from last years Ad Astra album. The single, which is available to download and stream now on all major platforms, also features a brand new remix of “Keep Dreaming” by Antosh.

The band have also released two new music videos for the single, both directed by Anthony Neale and both filmed in Japan during the bands tour in October 2025.

Ash have released a new music video for the song “Ad Astra”. The video, directed by Anthony Neale, was filmed backstage during the bands shows at London Scala on September 9 and 10, 2025 and features Graham Coxon who provides vocals and guitars on the track. Drummer Rick McMurray said of the song:

“Although this song was in many ways the final piece of this album’s puzzle, it also spawned the space in which the rest of the album lives, the dark matter that binds the Ad Astra universe together. Enjoy the ride through inner, outer and liminal space.”

Ash have released a new music video for their latest single “Fun People”. The video was filmed during the bands shows at London Scala on September 9 and 10, 2025 and features Graham Coxon who provides vocals and guitars on the track. Upon it’s release the band said.

“Hurtling down the runway as we take off into the sunset – that’s probably the perfect metaphor for where we are right now. Or at least, it’s the closest we can get to blasting into space as we prepare to release our ninth LP. And we’ve released another visual extravaganza in the shape of “Fun People” featuring Graham Coxon, filmed at the Scala. We still haven’t quite recovered from the buzz of those shows.”

Ash have released a new music video for their latest single “Which One Do You Want?”. The video, which was directed by Anthony Neale, features the members of the band and Holly Parkhouse. Describing the track, drummer Rick McMurray explained that the track is one of the oldest on the album, dating way back to the band’s New York days:

“So what’s the deal; why has it taken so long to find a home? Listening to it in isolation, it’s the perfect pop song. It swoops, it soars, it sings of desire. But it didn’t fit with the last record, and it didn’t fit with what we thought at the time was the next record.”

Ash have released a new music video for their latest single “Give Me Back my World”. The video, which was directed by Anthony Neale, features the members of the band seemingly stranded on a deserted planet in space suits. The track itself was written back in 2020, Tim Wheeler said of the track:

“You’d hardly need a degree from the school of Marple, Holmes and Poirot to figure out what it’s getting at. And although those sentiments may be just a memory from the standpoint of 2025, the song’s heart still feels relevant. In a time of chaos, disruption and angst there’s still a beautiful world out there and it’s worth fighting for."

Ash announce new album ‘Ad Astra’

Ash have today announced details of their ninth full length LP Ad Astra. Following hot on the heels of 2023’s Race the night – the band’s highest charting album for 20 years – the album will be released on October 3, 2025 via Fierce Panda. The album features a guest appearance by Graham Coxon of Blur on two tracks.

Ad Astra is described as a cohesive work, focusing on themes of distant galaxies and endless horizons. It will feature classic Ash power-pop-rockers like “Hallion” and “Dehumanised”, alongside more nuanced tracks such as the acoustic elegance of “My Favourite Ghost”. Adding to the excitement, Rick McMurray notes that the album title, points to the lyric “…as I look to the stars” from 1995’s hit single “Girl From Mars” but with the added wisdom of three decades of life experience.

Ad Astra tour of UK and Ireland

Ash have announced a mammoth UK and Ireland tour for the autumn and winter of 2025/26.

The “Ad Astra” tour kicks off with two September dates in London then resumes in Swansea in November, running all the way through to February 2026.

“Ad Astra” is Latin for “to the stars”, the words that came out of a teenaged Tim Wheeler’s mouth in the summer of 1995, setting up the classic chorus to the band’s first Top 20 hit, “Girl From Mars”. Speaking of the tour, the band added:

Ash have today announced details of their new single “Jump in the Line”. The track itself is a calypso song composed by Lord Kitchener and made famous by Harry Belafonte in 1961. Ash used the song as outro music at live shows throughout 2023 and 2024. The band said of the cover:

Ash have released another music video for their single “Crashed Out Wasted”. The video was shot in Buckinghamshire on the hottest day of the year and features a real aeroplane, as the band explain:

Directed by Anthony Neale and his incredible crew, we’ve never had so much fun on a video shoot. This felt like we were making a short movie not just another music video! Cannot thank them all more for all the work that went into it. Shot on the hottest day of Summer ‘23, and yes that is a real crashed aeroplane and everything is real practical effects. What a team!

Ash have released a new music video for their latest single “Crashed Out Wasted”. The video is actually a loop of footage from a 1996 show in St Louis, as the band explain:

“The visualiser is from a St Louis gig in 1996 when local legend Beatle Bob danced on stage to “Kung Fu” and Mark passed out onstage at the end of the show. We heard the sad news that Beatle Bob passed away recently. RIP Beatle Bob.”

Ash have released a new music video for their latest single “Usual Places”. The video, which was directed by Daniel Lillie, was shot at The Marquis of Lorne in London. Tim Wheeler said of the song:

Originally written as a tribute to long forgotten bars and faces as I was leaving New York, “Usual Places” took on extra significance as the first thing we worked on together post-lockdown. Below the surface of the joy of writing and playing together again, there’s a subconscious grief to all that was lost in those years. Friends and family, pubs and venues. This is our eulogy to them all. No coincidence the video was shot in the Marquis of Lorne, just a walk from Brixton Academy.

Ash have today announced a brand new run of European co-headlining shows with The Subways to promote new album Race the Night.

Ash have released a new music video for their latest single “Race the Night”. The video, which was directed by horror movie specialist and Ash super-fan Jed Shepherd, features the members of the band blindfolded and held captive in chains. Tim Wheeler said of the video:

The “Race the Night” video is the product from the fevered mind of long time friend and horror director Jed Shepherd. He’s taken a song about seizing the moment and had the band seized by a super fan who proceeds to force the band into doing her bidding. Enjoy the Misery…”

Ash have today announced details of their new full length LP Race the Night, the album, their first in five years, will be released on September 15th, 2023. Race the Night will be released via Fierce Panda, marking their first release on the label since their appearance on the 1994 Crazed and Confused compilation. The album is described by the band as “both a party with old friends and a message to leap into the present with arms wide open”.

30th anniversary Australasia shows

Ash will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a series of “Teenage Wildlife” themed shows in Australasia in early 2023. The shows marked the bands first in New Zealand since the Free All Angels tour in 2001.
