Review

We leave Milan after 2 solid days of promotion. Unfortunately our show was cancelled, (by the record company) as the press schedule had spiralled out of control. This was beyond our control and we’re very sorry to those fans that had already bought tickets. We promise we’ll be back later in the year. We’re up early and fly into Madrid, after check-in at the hotel we meet up with Paddy our UK press agent. He is over with Rocksound to do a feature. The photographer takes us on a stroll around the streets of Madrid and then it’s off to the venue.

The crew are looking way too sprightly for my liking after their beach holiday, bastards. I however am still a bit shaky after my poisoning in Milan. It turns out Hardy the Rocksound journalist used to be in a band who played a few Ash covers back in the day. He is invited on stage for soundcheck and his dreams are realized as we blast through, “Girl From Mars”, “Jack Names the Planets” and “Goldfinger”. Rick watches on and is quite impressed. Next door there is a great Irish Pub, so that’s where we go for food, play pool and generally hang out until the show. It’s a Champions League night and Madrid come back from behind to win 4-2. It’s a great show and the club is rammed as the temperature soars. Tonight we decide to drop “Detonator” from the set, (in respect to those killed or maimed in last weeks train bombs) but the atmosphere is still blinding considering recent events. As soon as we towel down and get changed we’re back in The Irish Rover downing shots courtesy of the very nice bar staff. The local label rep loses control after a few rounds and starts ranting that “All English are cunts”.

Luckily for him I’m not English. It’s been a great stint of shows around Europe, and with the sheer quantity of promotion Eastwest have co-coordinated and the warm receptions from both press and crowds alike, the forecast is looking good for a global meltdown on May 17th.
