“Starcrossed” Single Review

Having cemented their position as possibly the most consistent singles band of the last decade, “Starcrossed” is a reaffirmation of the “Business As Usual” doctrine that has perpetuated the Ash camp from Day 1 of their existence.

If recent album Meltdown suggested a much heavier approach than Ash’s previous works, then “Starcrossed” is the one exception to the rule that recalls some of their most poignant, stripped down - notice the omission of the word ‘ballad’, a superfluous word that makes the terms ‘dull’ and ‘boring’ sound inspired - moments such as “Sometimes”, “Oh Yeah” and “Shining Light”.

Perhaps the most noticeable difference on “Starcrossed” (and indeed the whole of Meltdown) is the way Tim Wheeler’s voice has gained a new depth of resolve and strength that seems a million miles away from the piss-stained indie warbling’s of Trailer.

Another top ten hit for Ash? You bet. It’ll soon be time to start compiling that follow-up Greatest Hits album…
