Review 1

Ash proved last night that in a modern world where nothing comes cheap, some of the best things in life still are free. Despite the oldest member being just 25-years-old, the (three-quarters) Irish four piece have just put the finishing touches to their third album and gave around 500 adoring fans a sneak preview, playing six brand new songs during a free gig at the Virgin Megastore on London’s Oxford Street.

The atmosphere couldn’t have been any further removed than that of the Marilyn Manson appearance at the same venue the same time last week. The fans arrived early, waited patiently when their idols were delayed, but went crazy when they finally arrived on stage some 25 minutes late. And while Manson and his sombre army of followers saw through 25 minutes of a near silent signing session, Tim Wheeler and co joked with the crowd and roused their fans with a 10 song set that included old favourites “Girl From Mars” and “Kung Fu”.

The appearance coincided with the release of new single, “Shining Light”, and acted as a preview for the band’s forthcoming UK tour. The band release their new album, Free All Angels, on 16 April and told Q4music that they are hoping that it will bring them “World Domination”, incidentally the title of one of the album tracks. The band, who were also signing copies of the new single stayed at the store until after 9pm to ensure everyone went home happy. Marilyn Manson they ain’t.

Review 2

Ash performed six new songs at this instore singing at the London Virgin Megastore, before signing copies of their new single “Shining Light” for fans.

The band appeared at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street in London, and played a 30-minute set to approximately 500 fans. Of the new songs played, Ash performed new single “Shining Light”, and its B-side “Warmer Than Fire”, “Burn Baby Burn”, which was announced by singer Tim Wheeler as the band’s next single, “Cherry Bomb”, “Walking Barefoot” and “World Domination”.

From the stage, Wheeler said it was the first time the band had ever played “World Domination” live. He joked: “This is the first time we’ve played this, so bear with us if its shite… but it won’t be!”

Ash also played their singles “A Life Less Ordinary”, “Kung Fu” and “Girl From Mars”, introduced as “an oldie but goldie”, before leaving the stage and signing copies of “Shining Light”. The band remained at the store until after 9pm to ensure everything was signed for their fans.
