Reward In Mind
A seven day weekend
The chaos never ends
Wake me up I must be dreaming
My friend with benefits
The Devil never quits
We have gone beyond redeeming
An unbalanced romance
No we don’t stand a chance
Reward in mind
Riches I’ve come to find
You will be mine
Because I’m bored
I’ve got my sights on you
Is your nightmare coming true?
Nothing you can do
A sudden sugar rush
A monumental crush
Show me all the hidden treasure
I’m getting more perverse
You only make it worse
Tell me all your guilty pleasures
Getting carried away
Who’s leading who astray?
Reward in mind
Riches I’ve come to find
You will be mine
Because I’m bored
I’ve got my sights on you
There is nothing you can do
When your nightmare’s coming true
Reward in mind
Riches I’ve come to find
You will be mine
Because I’m bored
I’ve got my sights on you
Is your nightmare coming true?
Is your nightmare coming true?
Is your nightmare coming true?
Nothing you can do
Nothing you can do
Nothing you can do
Song Notes
Tim Wheeler speaking to Talkhouse podcast in December, 2023 said of the track:
I wrote that on acoustic guitar. Some of my best rock songs have started on acoustic and translated really well. I think I wrote that on Lambay Island, actually, when I was writing the Islands stuff. It was one of the earliest for the album. So it’s almost like one of the ones I’ve kind of almost forgotten about. My time when I was excited about that was five years ago, which is terrible. It’s taken so long to come out. We were considering putting that on the Teenage Wildlife Best Of that we did. We recorded “Darkest Hour of the Night” at the same time. But one of the good things about not putting it out was, you know, I was tempted to tinker with it again. And then we got Keith Murray from We Are Scientists to add backing vocals.
