Bittersweet Blue

My baby’s having a baby
The word is going ’round
A hurricane is coming
Turning life upside down
“Do you know what you’re doing?”
That’s all the elders say
Every word of warning
Will just get blown away

Why at night can I think of nothing but her?
I’m out of my mind and I don’t even care

Bittersweet blue
What’s a boy to do?
I’m hung up on you
A dream come true
It’s you and me against the world
I’ll never find another girl
Worth more than this precious pearl
In this whole wide world

All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you

Don’t wake me up if I’m dreaming
My head is in the clouds
Such a hazy feeling
My feet don’t touch the ground
Baby is having a baby
Nothing will change our mind
We don’t care what they’re saying
They’ll never understand

Why at night can I think of nothing but her?
I’m out of my mind and I don’t even care

Bittersweet blue
What’s a boy to do?
I’m hung up on you
A dream come true
I won’t give in the final fight
Been waiting for this all my life
I’m not too young to realize
If someone’s worth this price

All I wanted was you

Why at night can I think of nothing but her?
I’m out of my mind and I don’t even care

Bittersweet blue
What’s a boy to do?
I’m hung up on you
A dream come true
It’s you and me against the world
I’ll never find another girl
Worth more than this precious pearl
In this whole wide world

All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you

Song Notes

“Bittersweet Blue” is an out-take from the 1977 album sessions when it was known as “Diamond Rick”. For over 30 years it was the only known unreleased song from those sessions. The band wanted to include it on the deluxe edition reissue of the album in 2008, however it appeared the master tape had been lost. Over 30 years later, while compiling the 30th Anniversary edition of 1977, they found the master tapes had been mislabelled and were able to finish the track with new vocals and lyrics for inclusion on the release.
