This track appears on the very first Ash demo tape Solar Happy which was recorded two weeks after Rick McMurray joined the band at Cosmic Ray’s 8 Track Studio. The band re-recorded the track a few years later for a BBC Radio session at Maida Vale Studios.
Tim: “American Devil” was a great tune, but it was a tune from our first band and the singer Cookie had written the lyrics. It had been our best song in that band but I guess by the time Ash started going we were a bit tired of it. It was my Dad’s favourite song of ours and he was always trying to get us to release it.
