Show Notes

The bands first BBC Across the Line Radio session. Note this date is a rough approximation based on information from various interviews.

Ash recorded the session at Blackstaff Studio 1 in BBC Broadcasting House in Belfast. The band recall that the show was likely recorded on a weekday afternoon, which meant getting special dispensation for time off school—especially with exams looming. The session was produced by the BBC’s veteran sound chief, John Lunn, who remembers Tim’s mum ringing the studio to ask when the session would be finished, as they had school the next day.

The band decided to record “Waterfall”, which had featured on the band’s early demo tapes and would later be re-recorded in 2001 as a B-side to the Candy single.

The decision to record a cover of Carly Simon’s “Coming Around Again” was apparently a spur-of-the-moment choice, with Tim and BBC’s Mike Edgar recalling how Tim kept going out to the car, putting the tape on, listening to the track, and writing down the lyrics. Ash would later re-record the song for the Little Infinity EP in 2012.
