True Love 1980

True love
A silver heart upon a chain
In 1980 was engraved
A heart so innocent
Before you knew a world of pain
Before you learned to be afraid
And lived through times so cruel
But you can start again
For what you mean to me
No words they can explain

I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
We’re two fools who stand divided
You and I should be united
True, true love

I watch you dance across the room
Your eyes are closed, so beautiful
You’re in another place
The music has enraptured you
So free of cares, I wish that you
Could always feel this way
Oh we can start again
For what you mean to me
I’ll never walk away

I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
We’re two fools who stand divided
You and I should be united
Don’t be scared of your emotions
I will give you my devotion
True, true love

True love
A silver heart upon a chain
In 1980 was engraved
A heart so innocent
Yeah we can start again
For what you mean to me
No-one could take your place

I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
We’re two fools who stand divided
You and I should be united
I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
Don’t be scared of your emotions
I will give you my devotion
True, true love

Song Notes

Tim and Mark speaking about the track:

Tim: “We went for a real synth pop production on this and maybe people didn’t expect that style from us – but I think there’s a great Ash song at its core.”

Mark: “Well the first time Rick and I heard it, it was just the verse and chorus chord progressions that Tim had looped up his computer. Just the chords on their own and the synth lines stood out and I knew that Tim would be able to form a really strong pop vocal around them. I made sure we worked it out as a band because, for me, it had single potential just from the vibe of the music.”
