Shadows
In case I never get to see you again
And don’t get time to work things out
Or time to make amends
Rending my soul a chasm
Of regret and words left unsaid
For you have been a part of me
What if it were to end?
I’m talking about shadows
Filling my heart
And swallows chasing the dart
I’ve got to find you
Before to long
I’ve got to tell you
What’s been going wrong
What’s been going wrong
All these feelings welling up
In a silent reservoir
In the dark recesses of my heart
I’m not the same person anymore
I can’t look you in the eyes
No longer hold your gaze
I’ve been living in my head for months
How come these things change
I’m talking about shadows
Filling my heart
And swallows chasing the dart
I’ve got to find you
Before to long
I’ve got to tell you
What’s been going wrong
What’s been going wrong
I’m talking about shadows
Filling my heart
And swallows chasing the dart
I’ve got to find you
Before to long
I’ve got to tell you
What’s been going wrong
And I’m talking about shadows
Filling my heart
And swallows chasing the dart
I’ve got to find you
Before to long
I’ve got to tell you
What’s been going wrong
What’s been going wrong
What’s been going wrong
What’s been going wrong
Song Notes
Mark said of the song during the writing of Twilight of the Innocents:
This is our A&R guys favourite at the moment. It’s a slower number with a bit of a retro-vibe. The bass line is a bit Motown in the verses and it got pretty heavy lyrics about the effects of breaking up. There’s a really great solo in this song that again has a distinct Motown feel. The drum patterns in the verses could be from a Velvet Underground song and this could turn out to have a lot of commercial potential.
