Nicole

Guilt and pain, haunting me everyday
Crushing me and I can’t get away
Killing my heart and soul
Oh my Nicole

Still I don’t know what to say
I’m tortured every night and day
It isn’t in my control

I said no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no, no, no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no, no, no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I killed my baby but I

Snowy skies, far away still alive
Scars are healing in your mind
In your heart and soul
Oh my Nicole

I’m starting to realise
The fatal secret of my life
It isn’t in my control

I said no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no, no, no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no, no, no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I killed my baby but I loved her

It’s still haunting me night and day, Oh my Nicole
You took a part of my life away, oh my Nicole
I relieve it everyday, oh my Nicole, Oh my Nicole

I said no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I said no, no, no
I killed my baby but I loved her
I killed my baby but I loved her
I killed by baby but I

Song Notes

Mark Hamilton lends his song writing skills to this effort, that features a cracking guitar riff, and Ash’s trademark bitter-sweet lyrics. One of the most requested tracks live, and many fans favourite. The opening of the track features a recording of a London subway. “Nicole” was played live regularly on the Free All Angels tour.

Rick McMurray during the Tim Burgess Twitter listening party for Free All Angels in May 2020:

Love the intro to this; Mark came to the studio saying he loved the sound of the tube train at the [St. John’s Wood] stop near RAK studios where we were mixing. Owen sent him back with a field recorder and that’s how the song starts
