Formed in response to the loss of a dear friend in 2021, Burned As Witches is Rick McMurray’s side project, where he plays all instruments.
Speaking of the song on its release in March 2026, Rick said:
“This was one of the last songs written for the album, it just tumbled out of my subconscious and I only figured out what it’s about as we were making the video. It’s about innocence in the face of a corrupt and venal world. Is it better to take the red pill and see the world as it is, when you feel so helpless to change it, or the blue pill and remain blissfully unaware of a world that exploits you? Musically, it’s the bastard child of Iommi and Page, bringing some Led Zep swagger to Sabbath’s doom, which somehow manages to conjure an undercurrent of glam.”
