Song Notes
“Gouge Away” is a song by Pixies that appears on their 1989 album Doolittle. The song addresses the story of Samson from the Book of Judges. Empowered by God with supernatural powers, Samson is able to accomplish incredible things in the name of the Lord – however, his weakness for women and reliance on his long hair (which gave him his powers) eventually lead to his injury and death. Samson had his eyes gouged out by enemy Philistines in a time of weakness, explaining the title of the song.
No recorded version of the track by Ash exists. However, Tim Wheeler played the song live with The Crookes on March 24th, 2012, at the Xoyo in London. The show was sponsored by Jack Daniels and saw Tim play a whole set of Pixies songs.
