A Sign

Give me a sign
Show me the way
I’m feeling helpless
I need to escape

Is afterlife
Waiting for me
At the end of the line?
Give me a sign

Only want to know I’m walking
Into the light
So I can take this heartache
Over the line
Only want to lie down knowing
I will survive
So I can keep on moving

With every step (Turn away from this)
I feel you with me (But the words keep coming back)
Walking together (When it was only us)
For eternity (Part of me keeps wanting it)
I don’t know where (Is part of you still here?)
All this will lead (If only you could see)
If the future is kind
Please
Give me a sign

Only want to know I’m walking
Into the light
So I can take this heartache
Over the line
Only want to lie down knowing
I will survive
So I can keep on moving

Song Notes

Charlotte Hatherley speaking of the track in 2017:

At the time of writing “A Sign” I was playing live with NZCA Lines, Michael Lovett’s synth pop brainchild. Michael and I have a mutual love of sci-fi and share similar musical influences so it made sense to start writing together. I’d seen the films Wild, Tracks and Into the Wild and the themes of retreating into the wilderness to find answers and heal really struck a chord with me. I took these lyrical ideas and wrote the verses and Michael added the chorus. It’s a very simple song really.
