5am Eternal
My soul felt black as I rode the final wave
It’s all downhill from now and my heart is far away
Walking along this road, it’s 5 am
Still out of my head, feeling lonely again
Down, down in the darkness, descending inside me
Why can’t I escape this feeling? oh, it engulfs me
There must be something cause I’m turning on myself
There must be something cause I’m turning on myself
Arriving at the house, the dim light inside
Coming from the bedroom, catching my eyes
Finding an open door, I rush up the stairs
Nothing seems different, no damage there
Down, down in the darkness, descending inside me
I can’t escape this feeling, oh, it’s inside me
There must be something cause I’m turning on myself
There must be something cause I’m turning on myself
Dance dance dance
Dance dance dance
How can you still want me after all these years?
How can you still haunt me after all these years?
As I sit alone thinking
My life is really nothing
I can never stop this feeling
Never stop this feeling
She’s sleeping like a child
Look at her closed eyes
She doesn’t know what she’s doing
She doesn’t know what she’s doing
To me
All through the house it’s stricken with this feeling
I can’t escape it and I know it’s meaning
You are back, it’s the last thing that I need
You don’t know what you are doing to me
Song Notes
This is one of the stranger of Ash’s B-sides. The song starts with wind-up toy noises and then goes into the somewhat weird tune.
To my knowledge, this song was never even attempted to be played live, for if you heard it you would understand why. Nevertheless, the song is really cool and has some cool sound effects. You really have to be an Ash fan to like it though. Most people would think it was just a noisy tune with blurry sounding vocals.
The last note of the song is a piano (synth) chord which seems to come from nowhere. Very cool. (By Brian M).
Rick: The B-sides to “Angel Interceptor” are even weirder. We decided to record this song we wrote ages ago (“5am Eternal”) and then we took a little bit too much space cake and started getting all these weird keyboards and whooshing noises.
Rick McMurray during the Tim Burgess Twitter listening party for 1977 in April 2020:
We were recording that the day we got the news about “Girl From Mars” going top 20. To say we were buzzed would be an understatement.
