Whatever happened to Ash horror movie Slashed, and does Tim remember seeing me in Ikea in London last March… it’s a long shot! - Phil

Ash: Yeah, Ikea is hell! We’ve been so busy concentrating on the album, Slashed has got put on the back burner, we’re still waiting for Kilroy Silk to sign his release form.

I would like to ask Ash when they started playing/when they realised they had talent? - Demeiz Ramereiz

Ash: We started playing when we were 11. In fact we met our 1st drummer through an ad in Kerrang, arguably, it took us about 14 years to become any good!

The new single is called “Clones”, if you could Clone somebody who would it be? P.s the Newport gig rocked, new material is awesome! - Mcfly

Ash: Hey Mcfly, good to see ya t’other night. Imagine an army of Rick’s, then he could truly dominate himself… so many sexual possibilities

We should clone ourselves then we could do a world tour in 2 weeks… make it easy on your clone.

Hi, I’ll be going to the Stoke Sugarmill gig tomorrow and I’m wondering what kind of songs will be in the set, more of the songs from the upcoming album Meltdown or from previous albums? - Joel, Stoke

Ash: We’re playing all the new album along with a selection of oldies but goldies… we’re playing some interesting shit we haven’t played for a while. A few songs have been controversially dropped, it’ll all be good, see you there.

Your new sound is supposedly going to be more heavy etc (not heard owt yet so I don’t know), so have you changed what kinda stuff you have been listening to? or are you just coming up with new ideas? and did you consciously decide to ’get a new sound’, or was it just a natural progression? - Julie, Hull

Ash: It’s been a natural evolution, it’s more representative of our live sound, and it’s been our first time working with an American production team, who’ve captured the sound we want. We’ve also spent loads of time over the last few years touring the states, so we’ve picked up some heavier vibes from that. Except Rick, who listens exclusively to 80’s mullet power ballads!

Your new material, such as “Clones” is more heavy than previous Ash songs, does the release of Intergalactic Sonic 7”s mark the end of you releasing pop records? Has Rick still got his mohican? - Billy K

Ash: Rick’s mohican has sadly been left by the roadside in Iceland. Pop has eaten itself.

Would you ever consider going out with a fan, if you had the opportunity to get to know them well enough? Thanks heaps - +Clare+

Ash: I think we’ve all done it at some point, what’s yer number?

Where does your name come from? Does it have something to do with setting fires? If it does, do you think that this is a positive message to send out to young people with access to matches? - Mr_Zombie

Ash: Don’t knock arson, there is a lot of skill involved, we’ve been arson around for years.

Is it true that you are at war with Muse? - Moodicow, London

Ash: I think some of our fans once had a war with Muse fans, dating to a messageboard invasion when one of our boards went down, or something stupid like that, but we think Muse are ace, their new album’s amazing.

You’ve always had an edge. Do you get slightly miffed by people asking you about your ’new’ edgier sound? - Kate Collins

Ash: Yeah, you’re right it’s always been there, it’s just that now it’s sticking out like the last chicken at Sainsbury’s.

Your albums sell for £16 in HMV, but my local indie store sells them for £9.99. I think he’s suggesting you’re shit. Have you got a message for him? thanks - Blue devil

Ash: £16 is a rip-off mind you… give him a kick in the balls anyway.

If you could join any band other than Ash, who would it be? - Chris
Ash, Mark and Charlotte: Probot
Rick: Slipknot
Tim: Westlife

Obvious question… asked every time… what’s it like begin the only girl in the band? - Gemma

Ash: Geez I get asked this all the time… I been doing it for 6 years now, so it must be pretty cool! I love it, don’t get any special treatment mind…

Hi my name’s Kat and I was just wondering what sort of musical influences you had as a teenager/starting up the band. Also I heard you got your name from looking through the dictionary and finding the first name you liked. Is that true? Oh and thanks. Good luck with everything - Kat

Ash: Yeah it’s true, we found the name after looking through the dictionary. When we started Ash we we’re listening to Nirvana, Pixies, Mudhoney, Teenage Fanclub all that kind of classic stuff.

Since the guys and gals have been away for quite a while, what do they think of these idiotic pop rock bands that release something like two albums a year? In my honest opinion, it’s nothing to do with keeping their fans happy but a money making scheme - Paul D

Ash: Are you talking about Busted? At least you know where you stand with bands like Westlife. Just ask Lord Brockett…
