Good Times In Tennessee

Monday, October 20th, 2008 | Comments Off

Tim Wheeler has written a mini blog post on Ash-official.com about his recent solo show at Jack Daniels birthday party in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Part of the blog entry runs as follows:

Just got back from the JD Set show at the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg.

It was a great experience. I got to play with a 9 piece band including 2 drummers. These were some serious musicians with incredible histories. Wayne Jackson, the horn player, has played on 52 number 1 records!

It was also great getting to hang out with Hugh, Roisin and Tom (Aka House Of Lords). Roisin and Hugh’s version of ‘Peaches’ was a real musical highlight for me.

It was interesting stepping out of the Ash world for a moment. I left my 2 brothers behind in NYC that I’ve played with for the last 16 years. They’ve been working away in the studio on 5 new songs while I was away galavanting and I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio and hearing the work they’ve done. Mind you I always get a bit of a nervous feeling leaving them to their own devices. One time I left the studio in Spain to have a weekend back in London when we were recording “Free All Angels”. They were meant to have done a bunch of work, but when I got back they were all destroyed after partying for 3 days and there were bullet hole in my 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG. But I know that had a lot to do with our producer Owen Morris.

Tim played the following seven songs in his set

1.Goldfinger
2.Running Back (Thin Lizzy Cover)
3.Dark & Stormy
4.Always The Sun (Stranglers Cover with Hugh Cornwell)
5.Shining Light
6.Starry Eyes (Roky Erickson Cover)
7.Whole Wide World (Wreckless Eric Cover)
