‘Arcadia’ Lyrics

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 | Comments Off

Ash released the third single in the A-Z series ‘Arcadia’ yesterday. Frontman Tim Wheeler has posted the lyrics of the song and a brief introduction message:

Dear friends and fiends,

It’s great to hear Arcadia getting such a good reaction from you. This song was a little gift from the cosmos. One day this spring I was walking to the studio instead of taking the subway because it was a really nice day. Somewhere between Union Square and the Flatiron building the melody of the chorus started to evolve in my head. It kept going round in a loop, so I rushed to the studio to record a quick guide melody before I had the chance to forget it. It’s one of the freshest songs we have, we started recording it in the last session we did with Rick. I think it was in May. Then I started writing the lyrics on the plane back to NYC from the Kendal Calling festival. The recording was only finished a few months ago in August. We’ve played it every night of this tour and I’m looking forward to seeing people singing along now that it’s been released

Here are the lyrics for your pleasure…

Tim

x.

Arcadia
Light up, spark the detonator
Now I’m homeward bound, way to see you later
If you make that step you’re the instigator
Got my mind made up, I’ll be your navigator
If you want me to travel over moonlit miles
For a precious smile
Following my lonely heart
Call on me, take me…

Far over the seas
I return in my dreams
Sailing home under the stars
To be safe in your arms
Ever near, travel through time
Ever close in my mind
Say you will truly be mine
Say you’ll always be mine

We are a winning combination
We’re two stars aligned in a constellation
When I get too low you’re my inspiration
Never let me down, you’re a revelation
One that comes along once in a lifetime
Oh I realise
You give me love free and wild
Oh my child, lead me…

Far over the seas
I return in my dreams
Sailing home under the stars
To be safe in your arms
Ever near, travel through time
Ever close in my mind
Say you will truly be mine
Say you’ll always be mine

Our empire stretches from the deserts
To the ice fields
Love and courage can take us anywhere
We dare to go

Far over the seas
I return in my dreams
Sailing home under the stars
To be safe in your arms
Ever near, travel through time
Ever close in my mind
Say you will truly be mine
Say you’ll always be mine

‘Joy Kicks Darkness’ Lyrics

Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Comments Off

Ash released the second single in the A-Z series ‘Joy Kicks Darkness’ today. Frontman Tim Wheeler has posted the lyrics of the song and a brief introduction message:

“I love that we’ve just released our second single in a month. We’re 6 shows into the tour and are having a blast. The Panama Kings have renamed the tour from A-Z to A-Dead. So far no casualties though.

Here are the lyrics for Joy Kicks Darkness to celebrate it’s release. The lyrics are about mortality with funeral pyre imagery and references to Ulysses. The title comes from a Jack Kerouac quote, I switched the first two words around.

We started recording the song a year ago and finished sometime in the spring. It’s so great to play live.

Many more beauties like this to come…”

The lyrics to the song are as follows:

Joy Kicks Darkness
On the wind the ashes rise
I’ve been searching for you all of my life
Tears are welling in your eyes
Listen to me Daddy, you don’t need to cry
For I know one of these days
I will travel there among the vast array and take my place

Here we go
we’ll leave all fear behind
Sailing into the sun
This is our time
Death and glory
Supreme sacrifice
We will meet again
On the other side
Rising into the light

We can’t wait, there is no time
You cannot predict when lightning will strike
There’s no chance to hesitate
Destiny has looked you straight in the face and called your name

Here we go
we’ll leave all fear behind
Sailing into the sun
This is our time
Death and glory
Supreme sacrifice
We will meet again
On the other side
Rising into the light
We’ll meet again
Be released in the end

Here we go
we’ll leave all fear behind
Sailing into the sun
This is our time
Death and glory
Supreme sacrifice
We will meet again
On the other side

Come on
We’re going into the light

Here we go
we’ll leave all fear behind
Sailing into the sun
This is our time
Death and glory
Supreme sacrifice
We will meet again
On the other side

‘True Love 1980′ Lyrics

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 | 2 Comments »

To celebrate the first plays of the bands next single True Love 1980 on the radio last night, frontman Tim Wheeler has posting the lyrics to the song:

True Love 1980
True love
A silver heart upon a chain
In 1980 was engraved
A heart so innocent
Before you knew a world of pain
Before you learned to be afraid
And lived through times so cruel
But you can start again
For what you mean to me
No words they can explain

I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
We’re two fools who stand divided
You and I should be united
True, true love

I watch you dance across the room
Your eyes are closed, so beautiful
You’re in another place
The music has enraptured you
So free of cares, I wish that you
Could always feel this way
Oh we can start again
For what you mean to me
I’ll never walk away

I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
We’re two fools who stand divided
You and I should be united
Don’t be scared of your emotions
I will give you my devotion
True, true love

True love
A silver heart upon a chain
In 1980 was engraved
A heart so innocent
Yeah we can start again
For what you mean to me
No-one could take your place

I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
We’re two fools who stand divided
You and I should be united
I’ve been trying to discover
Something that can last forever
Don’t be scared of your emotions
I will give you my devotion
True, true love
